When space is silence…

Words, sounds, and space…

Conversations with a silent cat

Amelia wears blue again
powders her nose
and whispers to the cat

You’re in my thoughts               often
                                       almost  constantly
I was upset with myself
          worried about you

Where were you when I was falling down?

Not that it matters anymore
I know you were hiding
                    afraid,  maybe
                    oblivious for sure
You are just a cat  after all
                just wildly detached
                        alone by choice
                         lonely at heart

Amelia removes some space
pets her distant company
shares the silence

Your eyes look so sad
Yet you are ready to turn and leave
          without a purr
                        a meow

You’ll be back –said Amelia
You are just a cat!

  1. ha. my cat meets me at the car when i get home and we usually have a conversation
walking to the house…cats are fickle though and when the conversation is done
they will just walk away….intersting the story within the dialogue too…the falling down

  2. Ah, though a cat may look and seem detached, I think it has a strong bond with its owner nonetheless. I liked reading about the relationship between Amelia and cat.

  3. Yes, those cats do come back… enjoyed this!

  4. Very well written Adriana, i could so see the cat with your character. Enjoyed your work.

  5. seems like the cat is more than a friend.

  6. Cats come and go .. and yes you can look into their eyes and talk.. and they always listen.. but never really get retort.. sometimes that’s the best kind of friend.. I like your Amelia persona.. really always come back to that…

  7. I have conversations with my dog and had some with my cats when I had cats. Pets are patient and understanding listeners.

  8. smiles… you have to give a cat a lot of freedom… but the she will be back again and again… lovely convo..

  9. A lovely story. Amelia obviously knows her cat.

  10. Ha. You have captured a very human and feline moment! Thanks. K.

  11. Fun piece. You’ve captured the fickle nature of cats quite nicely!
