When space is silence…

Words, sounds, and space…

Perplexity all over

Amelia runs through the labyrinth inside the secret room 1101 behind her eyelids, where memories are allowed, desires are contained, possibilities forbidden.
Perplexity all over.

The threat:
Three bewildered cats danced around Amelia

The range:
Close encounter within a confined space

The place:
Not here, not there –not anymore

The match:
            Forbidden realm

The cost:
            Repression

“But the beauty is in the walking — we are betrayed by destinations.”
― Gwyn Thomas

It is Haibun Monday #13 at dVerse, and the theme is walking.
Strictly speaking, this is not a haibun. It’s structure has been inspired by that of haibuns.

A flowy passage

Amelia looks at the water where moonlight transmutes into a flowy passage. She wonders how it would be to walk such path. Would it free her? Would it liberate all fears? She imagines fears released and flying away like colourful butterflies. Amelia observes the night, the fluttery rainbow leaving her body as she walks forward.

A glimpse

Eyelids open, eyelids shut.
A glimpse to the other side,
maybe a ghost or dragonfly.

Amelia follows the luminous, transparent wings. Their flutter leaves a red and golden trail with a faint azalea fragrance. Amelia closes her eyes, and follows the scent through dark woods and starless skies.

Ears listen, ears shut.
Heartbeats out, silence in.
Echos of known whispers.

Overwhelmed

Just in the last month, Amelia has:
      1) Randomly silenced her phone
      2) Hid five times from her diary
      3) Walked on eggshells around her own thoughts
      4) Slept ten nights with her head under the pillow
      5) Snoozed six rounds for  at least  seven mornings

Amelia is now charged with selfishness
            Oh!    So guilty!     –she accepts.

            Others in pain     –she feels.
Those weeks that might be minutes
the sorrow     the fight of the peaceful
the corrosion of cancer   in a loving body

Amelia now stares at life as it is:
__ OVERWHELMED __
             How easy is to believe,
             bias what we see,
             justify self-pity.

Amelia lies on the sofa & cries

A tear of stillness falls steadily
while more tears follow:
      1) Ten for not acting
      2) Five for delayed reactions
      3) A dozen for not showing care

Amelia is not proud!

She                           now
      feels like hiding
                                        again

Oh, but I won’t!     –she dares.
            Not anymore!
